Way to GO SJB!   Feeling proud and grateful to share this news with you!  Thanks to all of you - teachers, staff, students and families, our school knocked it out of the park on this year's 5 Essentials!  This is one of the measures our district uses to determine the success of its schools, and as you can see from the letter from our superintendent, we are marked as a school set for success! Roketenetz" <margaret.roketenetz@archchicago.org> Subject: 5Essentials   Dear Margaret,   Yesterday afternoon, I received access to the 2024 5Essentials results for all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago. You should be receiving your school’s report from the University of Chicago tomorrow. I’m writing today to let you know that St. John Berchmans School received a Strong or Very Strong rating on 4 of the 5Essentials. Congratulations!   Schools that receive a Strong or Very Strong rating in at least 3 domains are 10 times more likely to improve than schools that are below the benchmark. That is why we made it a goal for our schools within the Archdiocese of Chicago.   This great achievement is a testament to your leadership and to the commitment of your entire school community. Tom Wojciechowski, Pastor of Blessed Carlo Acutis Parish   IMPORTANT DATES   Friday, April 26th - NO SCHOOL, Teacher Professional Development Monday, April 29th - Friday May 3rd - Archdiocesan Religion Assessments (see below) Thursday, May 2nd - National Teacher Appreciation Day Friday, May 3rd - All School Dress Down and Snack Shack Saturday, May 4th - Junior High Dance Sunday, May 5th - First Holy Communion (2nd Grade)   SJB School Calendar Public URL SJB School Calendar Public Address in iCal Format  This spring, Catholic schools will participate in a unique, Chicago-specific religion assessment based on the religion curriculum standards that have been articulated for Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Chicago. All students in four-year-old preschool through Grade 8 in all schools will take part in the assessment between April 22-May 10, 2024.  Similar to assessments in other subject areas, religion assessment generates data to help teachers and school leaders better understand the strengths and weaknesses of instruction and student learning. Data from a system-wide religion assessment allows us to discern how we can work collaboratively to help students grow in knowledge about the Catholic faith in alignment with the mission of Catholic education. Religion assessment will take place during regular school hours. All students will participate with the guidance of their teacher to assist them as needed. Students with service plans will have access to accommodations such as a read-aloud feature built into the assessment and/or having additional time to complete the assessment. Student performance on the assessment will not influence a religion grade in school. No additional preparation or engagement outside of school hours is required.
