Stewardship is a way of life. Specifically it is a gospel way of life that directs our actions and our words to help bring about the Kingdom of God. It is not about your checkbook, tithe, or the school’s adjusted tuition. In the Catholic context, a steward is someone who recognizes that all things come from God. God challenges us to manage these resources in a way fitting with our beliefs as Christians.

We face obstacles in our stewardship. Contemporary American culture often contradicts the Good News of Jesus Christ. Consumerism, media, and technology encourage us to focus on our own satisfactions and ourselves. It is hard to accept the challenge of being a Christian steward today. But, if we allow the Holy Spirit to show us the way; if we open ourselves to Christ so that he may transform us at the Eucharist; if we trust that God’s plan for us is far greater than any plan we could ever make for ourselves, Saint John Berchmans will not only increase faith, build up community, and grow in love, we will reflect the beautiful face of Jesus Christ to all to see us.
