Mission Statement
Seek out and offer to all children the opportunity to apply for admission to the school.
Recognize that the school is an extension of St. John Berchmans Parish and that both exist to teach the work of Jesus.
Provide a quality Catholic education which develops in the children a spiritual awareness of God's presence in human life and our need to respond to God in faith.
Promote a sense of Christian community in all persons associated with the school, regardless of ability, age, or whatever racial or economic circumstance, so that the respect, dignity, freedom, and individuality of all will thrive.
Philosophy
St. John Berchmans School, an integral component of St. John Berchmans Parish, strives to encompass all facets of Christian living in its education of the whole child; spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, cultural, and physical. We work to create an environment that encourages the learning potential of every student through a well-rounded curriculum including music, art, technology, physical education, special reading and math classes. We strive to build a sense of self-esteem, confidence and love of learning we value and respect the cxulture and academic diversity of the school community. We respect the dignity of each child as a practicing member of the family of God, celebrating prayer and liturgical experiences, and encompassing moral values into their everyday life. Our common goal is the development of the whole person. This is accomplished through an atmosphere of love and support provided for by the teachers, parents, and students working together.
Educating the child is the shared responsibility of parents and school personnel. Parents, however, remain the primary educators. Their role is decisively important and should include:
• Living the values taught in a Catholic School. Children learn from example.
• Attending weekly church services.
• Helping the child relate the teachings of his/her faith to the experience of daily living.
• Promoting and maintaining a genuinely positive attitude towards education.
• Cooperating with the school and community to help the child understand his/her obligations and responsibilities
