DRESS CODE

St. John Berchmans staff believes that a child's appearance is extremely important. A clean and neat appearance is an indication of a healthy self-concept and attitude of pride in self, family and school. Parental guidance must be exercised to achieve this important aspect of personal development.

All students in Grades K–8 are required to be in complete uniform each day unless general permission for a non-uniform day has been given to the student body. School uniforms are supplied by Schoolbelles Uniforms (1527 Lee Street, Des Plaines, IL 60018; 847.375.1394). PRE-K
Pre-K students are required to purchase a gym t-shirt only. This is to be worn on gym days and for other special events/field trips. Teachers will advise students and parents of such days. Otherwise Pre-K attire includes:
Casual school clothing.
Tennis shoes or casual shoes with rubber soles. Sandals or dress shoes are not permitted.
Shorts should be worn under dresses or skirts.

BOYS (K-8)
White, monogrammed short or long sleeve polo shirt. Must be worn tucked into pants.
Navy blue uniform pants. No cargo pants allowed.
Navy blue cardigan (K-8).
Navy blue sweater vest or pull over sweater (4-8).
Black dress shoes. No tennis shoes. No shoes with lights.
Solid color black belt required.
T-shirts worn under uniform shirt must be plain white.
No earrings. One necklace may be worn, tucked under shirt.
Hair should be clean, neat, and cut above the collar.
Face should be clean shaven.
Blue uniform shorts may be worn in August, September, May, and June.
Removable boots may be worn in snowy or wet weather. An extra pair of shoes should be brought to wear in the building.

GIRLS (K-8)
Princess-style green plaid jumper (K-1)
Green plaid jumper (2-3).
Green plaid kilt. Must be worn to the knee (4-8).
Shorts worn under the uniform skirt must not be longer than the skirt.
Navy blue uniform slacks. No cargo pants.
White, monogrammed short or long sleeve polo.
Forest green cardigan sweater (K-8).
Forest green sweater vest or pullover sweater (4-8).
Solid forest green, white or black socks or tights. No designs on socks.
Solid black dress shoes. No platforms/heels. No tennis shoes. No shoes with lights.
No make-up, except for chapstick and lip balm. No lip gloss.
Clear nail polish only.
Post earrings only. Only one earring per ear.
One necklace may be worn, tucked under shirt.
Blue uniform shorts may be worn in August, September, May, and June.

GYM UNIFORM – BOYS & GIRLS
· Pre-K must wear gym t-shirt to school on gym day.
· K-8 must bring, not wear, gym uniform (including tennis shoes) to school on gym day.
· Gym shorts with school logo.
· Forest green t-shirt with school logo.
· Forest green sweatshirt with school logo.
· Forest green sweatpants with school logo.

DRESS DOWN DAYS
Students should wear clothes that are neat and clean, but casual.
T-shirt themes must be appropriate for school.
No hats/caps will be worn in the building.
Regular uniform rules regarding make-up, hair, and jewelry apply.

DRESS UP DAYS
No jeans or t-shirts.
No tennis shoes.
Regular uniform rules regarding make-up, hair, jewelry and shoes apply.

Proper adherence to the uniform dress code will be at the discretion of the teacher and administration of Saint John Berchmans School.

Failure to comply with uniform dress code will result in action taken under the discipline and behavior management plan. Five uniform violations will result in a detention for students in grades 5-8.
