WELCOME to the SJB Alumni website. As St. John Berchmans School begins its centennial year, there is a great deal to tell you about our school:
SCHOOL UPDATE -- Under the able leadership of Pastor Father Wayne Watts, School Administrator Peggy Roketenetz, and Director of Early Childhood Sister Joyce Montgomery O.P., St. John Berchmans School has experienced substantial growth during the past year. School enrollment for the current school year has increased by 20 students with the largest enrollment increase occurring in the pre-school program where 50 children are currently enrolled.
Capital improvements at the school during the past year include a new science lab, the addition of 36 new IBM computers, and a new playground. To enhance reading skills, new libraries have been constructed in the Logan and Altgeld school buildings. During the summer, the bathrooms in the Logan building were completely remodeled (yes, the same bathrooms we have used since the late 1950s). The school day has also been increased by 30 minutes to allow for greater teaching of the school’s expanded curriculum. Additionally, the school has achieved a balanced budget the past two years through careful financial management, successful fund-raising (the silent auction in March was a huge success), grants, and patron contributions. Much has been accomplished with the assistance of the School Board and much more is planned during the school’s centennial year. Alumni help and support is always appreciated.
While certain things may have changed at St. John Berchmans School over the past 100 years, the dedicated staff of teachers and religious leaders continues to provide faith based quality education to the families in the Logan Square and nearby communities. Sound familiar?
CENTENNIAL SCHOOL CELEBRATION AND ALL CLASS REUNION – To commemorate the 100th anniversary of St. John Berchmans School and the Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine’s who have tirelessly taught at our School for all of these past 100 years, a Centennial Celebration and all Class Reunion was held on November 17, 2007. Thank you to those who joined with fellow alumni and friends of our School for the Centennial Mass at 5 PM followed by great fellowship, gourmet food catered by Caffe Baci at 6 PM in the Church Hall. Tours of the campus buildings were provided allowing the alumni to revisit those “fond” SJB experiences.

PLEASE TELL US WHERE YOU ARE – An Excel spreadsheet has been prepared which includes the names of all alumni graduating from SJB during the past 50 years. The spreadsheet now contains over 2,000 names! Unfortunately, we are still in need of alumni contact information (home address, telephone number, and e-mail address) to keep the alumni advised of school developments and alumni events such as the SJB Centennial School Celebration. Please complete the Alumni Contact Information Form provided below. Your personal information will be kept confidential.
DO YOU HAVE ANY OLD SCHOOL PICTURES? - For the Centennial School Celebration, a brief history and photo album is being prepared. Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to locate any old school pictures such as classroom pictures or pictures of special school events. Take a few minutes to locate any old SJB school pictures in the closet, basement or attic to share with fellow SJB alums. Please send pictures or copies to the school (attention Julie Kurzynski at 2511 W. Logan Blvd, Chicago Illinois 60647 or call 773-486-1573). If you send an original, we will have a copy made and then promptly return the original back to you. We will also be periodically posting these pictures on the alumni website, so check out our progress.
